A residential Direct Support Professional (DSP) works primarily in a 24-hour group home or I/DD foster care home serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). Services may be delivered in individuals’ homes, communities, and with employment.
Responsibilities involve providing assistance with activities of daily living such as:
- Daily entertainment activities and some community outings
- Assistance with personal hygiene and care
- Medication administration and documentation
- Meal preparation, grocery shopping, cleaning and laundry
- Positive behavior supports and basic life skill coaching
- Implementing Individual Support Plans
- Properly handling a crisis and following protocol in stressful situations
Average wage range
$13.70-$18 per hour
To become a Direct Support Professional (DSP), Residential
Residential Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) will be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment screening and have a current valid driver’s license.
